Gravel & Silica sand

Sand and silex are without a doubt the most commonly used media in domestic pools. Sand retains any dirt in the water when it passes through the pores that form in the sand due to its irregular shape. One disadvantage is that sand needs maintenance as channels form in it and the water is returned to the pool without being filtered. Another disadvantage is sand’s capacity for trapping bacteria and micro-organisms, which can then proliferate inside the filter.
